The Cable Ship ‘Nexus’ at Liverpool :
Nexus was originally an oil drilling ship.
She was converted at Birkenhead by Coe Metcalf working at the famous Cammell Laird shipyard, on the Mersey opposite Liverpool.
The chairman and chief executive of BT Marine, Captain John Simkins, flew me to Liverpool then we drove to Birkenhead to inspect the ship and view the river Mersey, a grand and very enjoyable day out.
I then worked closely with the Coe Metcalf design office.
My result while quite ‘Turnerish’, includes many fine details.
You can see “the ferry cross the Mersey” and on the Liverpool shore the street were Coe Metcalf have their offices.
After the presentation
of “Cable Ship Nexus” : Tony Hart wrote to Gordon Frickers:
The composition and the quality of your painting is quite simply stunning and has deeply impressed everyone who has seen it. The detail, lighting and colours deserve particular attention; the inclusion of another CMS vessel in the background is a delightful touch as is the choice of venue.
T.C. Hart, Managing Director of Coe Metcalf Shipping Ltd.
I was also commissioned to produce a set of cards for Christmas and for use as a superior with compliments card of this marine painting.
Many distinguished people and renowned companies chose Frickers paintings as you can discover by reading my illustrated résumée; paintings with unique, enduring qualities.
Gordon Frickers is the only marine painting to have been honoured by solo invitation to exhibit in the European Parliament, May 2011, as Gordon Frickers is considered among, arguably the very best of living marine artists.
