‘Ferreira’ had completed her last commercial voyage and been sold as no longer economic, to Captain and Mrs Dowman.

Captain Dowman, as a youth, had once seen her in her full glory, as she raced up the English Channel bound for London with China tea.
Here, an ‘old lady’ but still displaying to a knowing eye, her former lines and grace, we see her being towed into Falmouth by the tug ‘Triton’ to be restored in Falmouth Docks.

Today this ship is still with us, at Greenwich, London.

As a child i visited her several times on school outings and years later I took my two children and X2 to visit Cutty Sark.

Graham Frickers on Cutty Sark

We know her as the world famous tea clipper ‘Cutty Sark‘.

Last Arrival“, was exhibited on-board “Cutty Sark” at Greenwich at the invitation of Simon Waite, her then Captain.

Captain Waite, a Master Mariner who trained as did so many distinguished British sea man with the British India Steam Navigation Company [B I to the lades]  proposed the Portuguese embassy should buy the painting and present it to the ship.

Unfortunately this did not happen however, happily, the painting was sold to a direct descendant of Vasco de Gama.
