Richard the Lion heart and the Duke of Cornwall built this wall, Saladin destroyed them.
While Arabs and Crusaders took turns at wresting the city from each other, in 1187, Muslim hero Saladin took control of Ashkelon and destroyed the fortifications built by the Crusaders.
Today the park is a tranquil place close to the Mediterranean Sea.
There are splendid beaches and an excellent Marina.
The port, still vital to the city, is used for the loading and unloading of oil and LPG tankers of crude and refined oil product.
