Party Time !

50 years to the day TODAY, this moment painted for the only eye witness, hence reposting this painting, named by Sir Robin Knox-Johnston “Roaring Forties” = Party time!

Roaring Forties, the print

Robin wrote to me “for a brief inglorious moment there was me & two masts in sight & nothing but ocean in any direction for 2,000 miles“…

Roaring Forties” “Suhaili” & Robin Knox-Johnston, 16 December 1968, deep in The Great Southern Ocean.

By sailing Falmouth to Falmouth Robin sailed into history as the very first person to circumnavigate, sole, single handed, non stop.

Not many artists are so fortunate as to make a painting that becomes world famous, I have several to my credit, this being number one, thank you Robin.

Little did we know when he and I designed this over a lunch at his home beside the river Thames at Putney, London, the picture would be reproduced world wide in numerous journals.
As I write today I have a request from Yachting Monthly, the world’s most widely read yachting magazine, for an article on how the painting was made and why, this has become a timeless story.

For sure “Roaring Forties” has influenced many lives, including most of the GGR18 competitors who have sailed onto the same course Sir Robin took all those years ago, today the picture is world famous, considered iconic, classic.

“Roaring Forties” on your wall and it’s bound to attract comments for you ! This picture is available as a classic print on canvas for the look and feel of the real thing.

For me it is a great pleasure to have become one of Robin K-j’s friends.
You can discover this painting and it’s stories on my page http://www.frickers.co.uk/…/marine-…/yachts-and-superyachts/

To understand just how remarkable was Robin Knox-Johnston achievement one should read his book “A World Of My Own”, ISBN 0-246-13410-0
