Speculative Art

While not exactly in urgent need of more commissions, more would be welcome.

However, while commissions naturally take priority, once in a while I too speculate in art by painting on speculation, something special, usual.

To that end, following a suggestion a friend made a while back I have just written the following to Alex Thomson Racing: (alexthomsonracing.com)

For those not ‘in the know’, Alex Thomson Racing is a professional offshore yacht racing team representing British solo sailor Alex Thomson.

Alex is the youngest skipper to win a round the world race, holds the fastest world monohull speed record, so is the fastest Brit to sail single handed, non-stop around the world.

Sponsored by HUGO BOSS and Mercedes-Benz the Alex Thomson Racing team support Alex’s race campaign through preparing the boat and making sure she is race ready and well supported with continued creative marketing and PR.

It’s a long shot which will be fun and fascinating if it finds it’s target I wrote:

 Dear Sirs, Alex in particular,

I’d like to paint your boat at no cost to you, on speculation, to show what I can do with a thoroughly modern yacht.
I think it’s about time I had at least one ‘under my belt’.
If it doesn’t find a buyer I’d be happy to have this painting as a fine example ‘in stock’ for exhibitions.

I’ve painted many famous yachts, none though as modern as yours.
You can see for yourself on my web site, www.frickers.co.uk/art and more particularly on the Yachts and Superyachts page.
Among my many happy clients who have examples of my work are Sir Robin Knox-Johnston (Roaring Forties) ~ he has 3 paintings ~, Pete Goss (Spirit of Mystery), Tracy Edwards (Ice Maiden) ~ she has two paintings ~ and Yamaha (Yamaha, First Challenge) ~ for the boardroom in Japan.

If this suggestion appeals to you, what I’d need for you is some co operation, ideally a chat with Alex, possibly by phone, better man to man, to enable me to take some ideas to concept sketches then one into a finished painting.
Creating this painting would also make a good story so if you wish, I can arrange free publicity, an issue with which I’m an ‘old hand’.
As I guess you know, paintings have an ‘aura’ photographs lack and classic paintings more so.

If you think I can help you in any other way don’t hesitate to ask, thank you for your time,
sincerely,
Gordon Frickers, artist, painter.
