I have attached a photo taken this week of the progress with B I Sunday.
I think we have Kenya the right size, it’s been a struggle.
I’m now refining her shape, then her colours,  and have begun work on the next two ships.
I’ve also been busy on the wharves.
For Kenya I’ve had a good look at other images of Kenya and some I hold on file of Uganda.
The attached pictures of Uganda arriving at Falmouth illustrates my meaning.
I was convinced Kenya was to small in our painting even after I’d enlarged her so I’ve remarked the ship and will paint her again, a third time.
Part of the problem is I am working in a very confined space so can’t stand well back as I work.
Thus an error is only noticed when I take the painting to the salon on the lower deck.
It’s an irritant, takes longer, but I don’t mind if you don’t.
My client and I are agreed getting it right is more important than being quick.
In this instance the good news is the larger Kenya does undoubtedly result in a more dynamic, more original composition so despite the frustration and delay I am very pleased.
As you may realise, what I don’t want is the ships lined up like insignificant ducks in the distance as rival photographs and artists have shown them.
I am quietly confident we are on course for a superior result.
