HMS Pickle, a Leading Seaman wrote to me today.

Oncoming storm

In sailors language that means winds force 6 to 7 gusting 8 or 30 to 40 kph, or in landlubbers parlez large branches on trees swaying, leaves flying as is anything light weight if you have a garden, plastic chairs for examples.

Wayfarer talk, painting and roller furling

A very charming reply to Studio News 15 arrived from Ralph  Roberts including a tentative enquiry for a painting of his Wayfarer.
Good paintings of small sail boats are rare and the famous Wayfarer is a noble subject so I replied “a watercolour would not cost much although I admit I’d love to paint a big oil of Wayfarers cruising or racing“.

An interesting enquiry arrived this week as a result of my visit to the Monaco Yacht Show and activities more than 10 years previously with Yachting World and the prestigious Nautor Swan European Regattas.

You may know the Swan class are some times described as the Mercedes Benz of production yachts and at Monaco they unveiled their biggest yacht to date, a glorious 90 foot sloop.
