Condell – the Ministry of Defence emailed permission

A very remarkable painting, “The Chilean National Frigate FF Almirante Condell departing Portsmouth, 2008” can now be added to our web site frickers.co.uk in our Marine gallery under Warships.

This marine painting is also a wonderful form of sales consolidation for the BAE Systems Surface Fleet Solutions (Operations) Limited / Ministry of Defence team who sold and refitted this frigate to Chilean requirements.

This splendid original marine painting will be a permanent reminder for the people of Chile from whom and from where they were supplied their Type 23 frigates.

The marine painting by Gordon Frickers of “The Chilean National Frigate FF Almirante Condell departing Portsmouth, 2008” was commissioned exclusively for and by BAE Systems Surface Fleet Solutions (Operations) Limited.

Our liaison officer with BAE Systems and the Ministry of Defence confirmed this week by email permission to publish.

The actual size of the ship in the original painting is quite small.

In the painting the ship is about 3″ (7.5 cms).

The BAE Systems contract stated the painting including frame had to fit into the Officer’s Wardroom onboard the Type 23 frigate Condell (formerly HMS Marlborough), show the ship “in her environment” and include as much of Portsmouth as possible in the background.

The  resulting painting is amazing.

Detailed images on the website will nicely illustrate the sheer quality of the painting. You will be seeing the ship on your screen far larger than in the original marine painting.

This marine painting with its’ story can be found in the Marine Gallery under Warships.
