Picturesque features include the old Lavatoire, a nice feature and especially so for its location just below the village, a social and useful building in the old days.
| C'est entre pays de vignobles et collines que l'on trouve cette charmante et minuscule cité qui n'est autre que le plus petit village de France. Bâtie sur un pic rocheux, la cité fortifiée classée au rang des petites cités de caractère de Gironde, offre un bel ensemble médiéval : restes de remparts, maisons anciennes, tour qui faisait partie du château de Castelmoron, aujourd'hui disparu, une des trois portes d'entrée de la cité. La légende soutient qu'il s'agissait là d'un ancien castrum romain, détruit par les invasions du Ve siècle et reconstruit par des prisonniers maures au VIIIe siècle. Dans le village, il faut suivre le sentier qui descend depuis la porte d'entrée de la cité et qui longe des murs couverts de verdure, de fleurs et de plantes de rocaille. | This charming and tiny town, none other than the smallest village in France, lies between vineyards and the hills. Built on a rocky hill, the fortified town, representative of the small towns that characterise Le Gironde, offers a beautiful medieval sight: ruined ramparts, old houses, a wall which formed part of the castle of Castelmoron, now disappeared, one of the three town gates. The legend says that it was an old Roman fort, destroyed by the invasions of 5th century and rebuilt by Moorish prisoners in the 8th century. In the village, it is necessary to follow the path which goes down to the town gate and which skirts the walls covered in greenery, flowers and rock plants. |
