Further Reading about Fowey harbour, Cornwall
Taking the Polruan Ferry from Fowey he settled in the remains of the old blockhouse and started to sketch in oils (he still has the original study made that day). As he worked the scene we see here took place and he used his sketch and photos of the ships to create this exceptionaly atmospheric and emotional study of a part of the Cornish coast, Fowey Harbour entrance, in a storm. While he worked, men nearby fished. After an hour one of the anglers packed up and came and looked at his study. "Yo've made a right bloody mess of that mate" was his comment. The angler went home with no fish. Gordon Frickers sold this picture for £500 and still owns the sketch so who is laughing? It has been said that the definition of an angler is a stick with a worm at both ends...
