Commissioned by Sir Robin Knox-Johnston the original is a treasured possession, you can some times glimpse it on TV when Robin is being interviewed in his lounge at his home.

Robin said this scene would be quite impossible to photograph, could Gordon Frickers make a painting of it? It has become Gordon Frickers most famous painting, reproduced in journals and magazines world wide, even Reader's Digest!

Robin said, "I would love another Frickers painting". One of Robin's distinguishing qualities is he means what he says, later he commissioned "The Clipper Way" and more recently, "Dumra, Departing Bombay".

Sir Robin is Britain's most renowned living sailor. He has taken on numerous circumnavigations since his first great adventure, many solo, is a Master mariner, specialist with ancient methods of navigation, runs The Clipper Challenge, has been a director of the National Maritime Museum, 3 times been Yachtsman of the Year, and generally had far more adventures than our space here can describe.

Most recently aged 67 he raced in The Velux Five Oceans Circumnavigation sailing "Saga Insurance" as the oldest and most revered of the eight competitors in this gruelling three-stage, single-handed, around-the world regatta. Robin said he trained on cigarettes and whisky.

Old Pulteney Single Scotch Whiskey helped power him round the world in The Velux Five Oceans. A dram a day of Genuine Malt Whiskey, in a survey of 20 Scottish centurians was part of their routine.

In 2008, a gripping autobiography was pubished, "Force of Nature".
