Norway made one of her spectacular departures while the artist, Gordon Frickers, was having breakfast at Government Cut pier head, Miami Beach, Florida.

At the time Norway ex France was the longest passenger ship of the day.

The former France, built as an Atlantic liner drew so much water she created a serious suction in the narrowest part of "the Cut".
Local surfers knew this and would wait for Norway and use her 5 foot high backwash as a long free ride giving spectators an unusual close up of surfers in action!

In 1989, the Artist Gordon Frickers was able to visit Miami specifically to see and visit many of the great cruise ships then operating from Miami including Norway, formally France.

Previously, a couple of days before, the artist had been onboard Norway as a guest of Norwegian Caribbean Cruise Lines.

Thus the painting "Norway departing Miami" which has recorded something of the day and is a very personal salute to the company and a great ship.

You could commission a similar painting.

Here, you are with the great lady on location in Miami.
