The Minerve voyage by Horatio Nelson, then a Commodore, was a curtain raiser. The frigate Minerve lead directly to Nelson's becoming a famous celebrity in Britain, a knighthood and appointment as Rear Admiral.

This carefully researched Minerve marine painting shows Nelson at Gibraltar, 10th December 1776 when he transferred from HMS Captain, so a bargain!
You have 2 Nelson ships for the price of one!

The research for this marine painting includes Nelson's route to the battle of Cape St Vincent and even includes new information on fine details like how exactly Nelson's ships were painted and from the UK Hydrographic Office, the appearance of Gibraltar and the British anchorages in 1776.

Many of the books on Nelson either don't mention Nelson's time on Minerve (known in French service as LA MINERVE laid down at Toulon in 1793 but in the British navy as Minerve) or barely mention it.
