Shown sailing in Le Goulet de Brest, this superb replica was launched at the vast Maritime Festival Brest '92 as the result of a bet a year before with the shipwright who said he could build her in time for the festival. Amusingly, her cannon were supplied by Martin Bibbings of the (English) Trafalgar Gun Company. Martian described his products as the ultimate executive toys...
Gordon Frickers photographed the launch, a great day at a superb event, and had the painting on display to show how she would look when rigged.
She is a very accurate replica of a typical French commerce raider of the Napoleonic Wars. Ships like her kept the R.N. very busy and captured some 10% of all British merchantmen. As his French friends put it, you won all the battles but we made the money!
It is a beautiful original and he is very happy it sold to good friends in Brest.
