Useful facts + excellent stories about Ice Maiden

Gordon Frickers & the Maiden team combined to produce this painting which skipper Tracy Edwards regards as the definitive image from that remarkable Whitbread race.

Numerous ideas were discussed, for example when the girls entered Miami provocably wearing teeny weenie bikinis.

Tracy felt that this was the one that epitomised what the race was about for her & her team. Her first comment on seeing the finished painting at the Royal Southampton Yacht Club was "WOW".

The achievement demonstrated by these women silenced their many critics who insisted an all women team would never complete the race. Not only were they the first all female team to circumnavigate our world, they also won 2 legs of the race! It is an inspiration to all who struggle for equality.

The yacht, according to her log, is shown in the Antarctic Ocean 50° 4' South, on the morning of the 10th of November 1989, shortly after encountering icebergs.
