Sailing into history
This was the first all female crew to circumnavigate the globe who also won 2 legs of the race. The yacht "Maiden" shown the day she first entered iceberg waters in the Southern Ocean.
The skipper, the petite Tracy Edwards, defied the critics by raising the money for her boat and her challenge in the Whitbread Round the World Race.
She defied them again by taking an all woman crew. They scoffed, the women will fall out long before the voyage is done. She defied them again by winning 2 legs of the race with what was clearly not a money is no object boat and again by returning to a deserved hero's reception.
Frickers work closely with the Maiden team who felt for them the defining moment was as shown in this painting about which Tracy Edwards first word was "Wow"!
