An odd address and Art Therapy

The Exhibition (Exposition) of paintings by the Art Therapist, my friend Andre Lafargue at Pau has been and gone.
I’d have gone except the invitation arrived late.
The invitation was curiously addressed. (more…)

Last Monday I crossed the English Channel and now I need a new studio…

Saturday, June 19th, 2010

I sailed on 19,500 tons of  Brittany Ferries new “Amourique” then stayed my first night near Redon.
I have the keys to a friends house where I often help out while passing through, then eventually found my way back to Itzac in the Tarn, Midi Pyrenees.Geoff_n_Wendy_HouseIMG_5767_wp.jpg
I have been mostly cleaning my house since. How do so many spiders and so much dust get in a closed house ~ and 3 frogs in the bathroom?
The picture of my cottage was taken last year before the house warming but balloons apart the place has not changed much for 50 years and was in 1825 the village forge.Soir_de_la_Fete__ma_maison_IMG_4606_wp.jpg
Yesterday re started painting, a large landscape painting and a marine painting, a new “Trafalgar Dawn”. (more…)

French landscape painting, open ended fine art

Friday, May 21st, 2010

Although my reputation is for marine painting, I am working as hard as I can on my Landscape paintings in particular those of Southern France.SP__014.04.10IMG_7212_d.jpg

I am bringing most of these originals to Plymouth on the 28th of this month for framing as I have several offers of minor exhibitions local to my French address and wish to clear some of these pictures and reduce my stock.
If they sell well I’ll paint some new versions, if not I’ll continue to focus on marine painting. (more…)

HM Schooner Pickle original for sale! ~ and late news of Nelson at Gibraltar

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

HMS Pickle, the schooner Pickle, The Pickle the ship that famously carried the news of Trafalgar to England and the Admiralty; I heard last week that the original of I have urgent dispatches is up for sale.
Now to be sold separately, a change of plan, sold separately from the rest of the owners Victory 2005 collection which I hear has a prospective buyer for the rest of the collection.
I’m not sure how much the owners want for it, my impression is 10 to 15,000 pounds, which is about 15 to 23 thousand USD.

This is the renowned marine painting, reproduced in several learned books and considered by some leading experts the definitive marine painting of HMS Pickle, a painting from which even the prints have created a history with copies going to among others, Princess Anne, The Princess Royal, The Royal Naval Air Service and the New York Yacht Club!72_dpi_dispatches_with_texts__1_.png

I have urgent dispatches is still available as a prestige limited edition. (more…)

The marime painting, Samuel Plimsol, Australia bound, and progress

Monday, April 19th, 2010

At last this major marine painting of the Australia bound emigrant ship Samuel Plimsoll is beginning to show the promise intended!

Getting the underlying colours and atmosphere of the painting has been quite a struggle, expensive in time, so far over 100 hours in these two prime marine paintings and materials, a whole tube of cobalt blue for example.SP_14.04.10_IMG_7207_d.jpg

“Racing Yachts” and the Yachting World prize

Friday, March 12th, 2010

A warmer day today (still F cold this eve). Excellent light today for painting.
Alone in the studio, I was able to spread out a bit and enjoy the calm, concentrate.
I am more productive given a tranquil studio. I recently worked out I could manage with a minimum of 75 sq m space to live and work, of course it would have some conditions attached, like good light, calm atmosphere and ADSL/Broadband…
The new marine painting “Racing Yachts” featuring Swan Nautor type yachts is almost complete. Yacht_racing__Swans__det_1_IMG_6969_wp.jpg (more…)

Snow, moonlight and studio space

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

More snow today, it has been bitterly cold for the past 3 days with a North wind, the pop up pic opposite shows a car stuck outside my cottage…snow_feb_IMG_6791_wp.jpg

Today’s task is to work on the larger marine painting of the Cattewater, Plymouth by moonlight, a scene showing the  clipper Samuel Plimsoll loading emigrants Australia bound.

The studio space is very limited, I need more space but where and how, any suggestions? (more…)

Marine painting news, Trafalgar, galleries and re sales

Monday, February 8th, 2010

Several interesting emails today, all 3 enquiries for marine paintings (not marine prints) about Nelson and Trafalgar.
Curiously this makes 3 enquiries for that sort of painting in the past week…
Seems a bit like the old joke about waiting for buses?Gib_IMG_6777_wp.jpg
Of course, followers of this blog will know, Gordon has a new marine painting on that subject, Nelson at Gibraltar,  in production (hence insert pop up pic here) at this moment and another, a new version of Trafalgar Dawn, almost ready to start. (more…)
