A client (and friend)  has written: “It’s pretty exciting isn’t it! Will it likely be framed in the same manner as the original TD Gordon? I’m already looking at the balance of my dining room!!!!!”
He has asked to have print No 1 reserved for him.

This new marine painting Trafalgar Dawn, The French Perspective is intended to become a pair with the renowned Trafalgar Dawn already in print.

“Nuestra Senora de las Mercedes”, a lost Spanish treasure ship is in Wikeleaks?

Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010

I am here more than usual, writing in my role as occasional journalist for Sea Breezes and others, as a Marine Artist of 30 + years experience and for my web site blog.

I have here before your very eyes on show for the very first time a new marine painting almost complete.350_D_IMG_9011_d.JPG

This marine painting has been  researched for several years and I have written an account of how “Nuestra Senora de las Mercedes” came to be lost and its very considerable consequences including the recent controversial dives made on her probable wreck by Odyssey Marine Exploration , Inc. (NasdaqCM: OMEX) a pioneer in the field of deep ocean exploration. (more…)

Trafalgar! A painting in progress shown here on Trafalgar day, 21st of October, the battle of Trafalgar called by the French “Le catastrophe de Trafalgar”.

The battle of Trafalgar, an event which changed world history and Napoleon Bonaparte said did not happen also saw the heroic death of the British hero Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson.

Appropriately here is the battle of Trafalgar at approximately 06.20 as viewed from the French flagship; a painting in progress.TD_2_21.10.10_IMG_8792_d.JPG (more…)

“Trafalgar, Nelson’s plan…”

Saturday, September 18th, 2010

Trafalgar Dawn (http://www.frickers.co.uk/marine-art/trafalgar_dawn.html)  has become a famous painting including being reproduced in several authoritative books and is available as a signed numbered Heritage edition from this web site.

For some years now friends have been asking me to paint and print the opposite view, from the French flagship, to make a pair, neat idea but the research proved very illusive.

Do have a look at the beginning of this historic painting and be one of the first people to to see pretty much what the French saw from their flag ship Bucentaure on that fateful Monday 21st October 1805.Trafalgar_Dawn__French_perspective__painting_in_progress_IMG_8530_14.09.10.JPG (more…)

Following some positive feed back via this blog,  Gordon Frickers have given this painting several new “coats of thought” and eventually reacted.

Comments are always of interest, did you know, you can leave yours at the tail of any blog entry?

If you look at earlier blog entries for The Flying Scotsman you can see if you can spot the changes? (more…)

A yarn of history from the research of Gordon Frickers into the story of HMS Unique and the British U class submarines.

Painting progress

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

August closes, marine painting has resumed in earnest at last following the difficulties caused by having to leave Itzac suddenly due to faulty electrics.

Being a bit out of practice it seems there is more paint on me than on the canvases, a situation I’m hoping to reverse.

Work has recommenced on the new version of the renowned “Trafalgar dawn” (available quickly and securely using PayPal as a signed numbered edition from page

http://www.frickers.co.uk/prints.html), an update written below.

Also on the easel in the past few days, HM Submarine Unique and “Emigration, Plymouth Cattewater and the Samuel Plimsol” ~ here is a brief progress report. (more…)
