Christmas carols are coming

Christmas and snow are coming to Castelnau de Montmiral, here is a pop up pic from last year.  CDM_Christmas_tree_IMG_0130_d.JPG

The soprano (Dutch) Alexandra Elizinga will be singing with an English choir at  an Anglo French carol service Friday the 16 th (19.00 ish) in the beautiful ancient church, a marvelous setting.

The following day, the 17 th is scheduled as a special market day, Marche de Noël and will include carols sung in the centre of the village beside the Christmas tree. (more…)

Hermione, la frigate de libertie

This evening I returned to Castelnau de Montmiral having been away 3 days to Rochefort and La Rochelle. Hermione_bow_IMG_2314_d.JPG
I went to look at the Hermione, an historic frigate replica (ship) building at Rochefort (the replica Frigate “Hermione” is known as la frigate de libertie) ) and for opportunities to sell my work at La Rochelle.

Yes it was a big fete in Gaillac, I am told the biggest party of this sort in France,  at the Salon des Expositions for the Gaillac Premeur wines, the new wines of this season. (more…)

Wayfarer, restoration of a wooden boat

I am supposed to be a painter, marine painter, but everyone needs a way to relax so I have recently found time to begin the long process of stripping the old damaged epoxy from my wooden Wayfarer.  EV_13.11.11_IMG_2165_d.JPG
The most urgent problem is to find a secure dry place to winter store the vulnerable hull, any suggestions and or offer will be very welcome. (more…)

At Castelnau de Montmiral the British community are represented at the Remembrance Service, sell poppies and honoured because so many Brits live around here.

Vente d’autume – Apart from worrying about world issues we have a rising gale here today. Scudding clouds and a threatening copper colour on the horizon.  Vente_d__Autume_IMG_2137_d.JPG

In sailors language that means winds force 6 to 7 gusting 8 or 30 to 40 kph, or in landlubbers parlez large branches on trees swaying, leaves flying as is anything light weight if you have a garden, plastic chairs for examples. (more…)

Wayfarer talk, painting and roller furling

A very charming reply to Studio News 15 arrived from Ralph  Roberts including a tentative enquiry for a painting of his Wayfarer.
Good paintings of small sail boats are rare and the famous Wayfarer is a noble subject so I replied “a watercolour would not cost much although I admit I’d love to paint a big oil of Wayfarers cruising or racing“. (more…)
