HMS Pickle, a new view, Pickle in a Pickle sails again

Saturday, September 25th, 2010

HMS Pickle, a new yarn to add to the thread of the renowned schooner Pickle of unlikely name and much disputed origins, the Pickle which heroically carried the news of the battle of Trafalgar and the death of Nelson (”Sir, we have won a great victory but we have lost Nelson“) is splendidly illustrated as a Heritage quality, signed numbered edition picture in “I have urgent dispatches“.
We are rarely able to see Gordon Frickers artwork in its final location so this is a treat! Pickle_2010_0815_201114_d.JPG (more…)

Forest_sunset_IMG_8507_d.JPGWe have had some very atmospheric sunrises and sunsets here at Castelnau de Montmiral this month, a few art  photographs included for your pleasure.Foret_de_Grisigne__IMG_8489_d.JPG

Sunset_and_Swallows_IMG_8496_d.JPGWe have also had more showers than usual plus following a cooler than normal summer 3 days ago I dropped my shorts and climbed back into jeans, a clear sign of an early autumn!

Meanwhile I have a rush job on thanks to the world leading marine picture library, Pickthal’s Picture Library who want a cover picture from me of a sailing ship and steam ship (which 3 days ago I did not have) and of course the biography mentined yesterday,  for possible inclusion in the very prestigious American “Marine Quarterly” so here follows some nice photos of the new marine painting “Winds of Change”  Steam_and_sail__01.10.10_IMG_8731_d.jpg following yesterday’s biography of Gordon Frickers, enjoy!

Now we have “Winds of change“, 12 hours thinking and inspired painting changing an existing painting,  into I hope you agree,  a very exciting picture? (more…)

Gordon Frickers, Biography of a marine artist

Sunday, September 19th, 2010

Thanks to the world leading marine picture library, Pickthal’s Picture Library I have to write my own biography…

According to the Oxford dictionary a biography is “An account of some one’s life written by some one else“, hmmm.

Plan, there are lots of comments on my web site made by others so that can form the solid backbone of this biography of a marine artist.

Do you think this will be OK? (more…)

“Trafalgar, Nelson’s plan…”

Saturday, September 18th, 2010

Trafalgar Dawn (http://www.frickers.co.uk/marine-art/trafalgar_dawn.html)  has become a famous painting including being reproduced in several authoritative books and is available as a signed numbered Heritage edition from this web site.

For some years now friends have been asking me to paint and print the opposite view, from the French flagship, to make a pair, neat idea but the research proved very illusive.

Do have a look at the beginning of this historic painting and be one of the first people to to see pretty much what the French saw from their flag ship Bucentaure on that fateful Monday 21st October 1805.Trafalgar_Dawn__French_perspective__painting_in_progress_IMG_8530_14.09.10.JPG (more…)
