After a thunderstorm – Extra Info
Two sketches were made before the painting and kept nearby as a guide.
I particularly liked the relationship between the various subjects in the picture.
The vines and cheerful sunflowers with the solid brooding forest and sky pregnant with warm rain, the distant vale rich with more vineyards and like the forest waiting to be explored and adding depth to the painting, very necessary as when painting a row of vines there is little colour separation between plants and a high risk of them blobbing en masse.
I intend to try this subject again, playing with the variations and the weather, how would a bright hot sky effect the whole, better, worse, or valid in its own right? I hope we shall see soon.
