Entre-deux-Mers

 In the Bordeaux Province

These collections are being transferred to a new ‘niche’ web site, www.artfrickers.com specially built to introduce this project and the landscapes of Gordon Frickers, artist.

Entre-deux-mers, the land between two seas, the stuff of ledged, is a beautiful region to tour a land between St Emilion and Sauternes, a land nestling between the great rivers Dordogne and Garonne, at the centre of which is the little village of St Brice {see St Brice, first light, church & vineyard} with but one place to stay, a very conginial chambre d’ote, were the artist found himself locked in having left his key in his car, so lept from his first floor balcony so as not to miss painting the morning light.

This is a gentle attractive rural landscape of rolling hills and vales, which includes the smallest commune in France, Castelmoron d’Albret of which our artist has appropriately made a minature painting.
Entree Deux Mers offers the visitor 550 km of marked hiking trails which combine the arts of landscape, wine and gastronomy.

A landscape of bastide towns, Benedictine Abbeys, churches and fortified windmills.

Many of these old villages were founded by the English well over 600 years ago.

Cadillac, la Porte de la Mer (Circa 1315) is an example from the English period and today all have colourful markets and fairs offering excellent foods, traditional arts and crafts and much given to wine production.

Entre-Deux-Mers is best known for excellent white although the red can be very good.

Sauvaterre is the principal ville of the district and features in several of the 2013 paintings, a picturesque ancient town roughly at the centre (that honour claimed by St Brice) and accessible by auto route and with 2 airports.

A relaxed and less visited part of this renowned province we know as Bordeaux, we would expect as we did, you will find the people all the more friendly and welcoming.
