a celebration of Samuel Plimsoll, 17 th july at Folkestone

By gordon on February 16th, 2013

This is to let you have the good news: the Folkestone Charter of Corporation has agreed to incorporate a celebration of Samuel Plimsoll into its 700th celebrations on 17th July.

I shall keep you posted about other commemorative activity as I hear about it.

The clipper ship Samuel Plimsoll is illustrated in fine detail in the painting “Emigration Plymouth Cattewater“. I have pages of research on the ship, passengers and the formerly renowned now largely forgotten Plymouth Emigration Depot.

I hope on e day to have time to write or have a friendly volunteer write the story for this web site or a book about marine art.

An exhibition about Plimsoll at the Town Hall Museum in March is under discussion, supported by Folkestone Town Mayor Rodica Wheeler.

I am also delighted to report that the takings for both the previous Samuel Plimsoll events meant that the RNLI and the Kent Merchant Navy Association each received £428.

Many thanks to all for their generosity.
