In Memory of Samuel Plimsoll

This is just to thank so many of you for spreading the word, for taking initiative for this cause, and to let you know that so far we have acceptances for this occasion from, among others, the Folkestone Town Mayor Councillor Rodica Wheeler and her consort, as well as representatives of the following bodies:

Kent Merchant Navy Association (with Standard); RNLI (with Standard); Prince of Wales Sea Training School Veterans Society (with Standard); Folkestone Town Council; Hythe Town Council; Shepway District Council; Folkestone W County Council; Kent County Council; Sandgate Parish Council; Folkestone Liaison Committee; Folkestone URC Church; St Peter’s Church, Folkestone (‘the Mariners’ Church’); the congregation of St Martins Folkestone Rotary Club; Channel Rotary Club; as well as mariners, journalists, writers, musicians, and historians from the area and further afield. The events have been flagged or will be covered in Folkestone Creative, Go Folkestone, the Folkestone Herald and Shepway Quarterly.

If you have accepted and represent a body that is not listed above, do please let me know.

Please continue to encourage others to come, and RSVP to me on gordonfrickers@nullyahoo.co.uk

I will faithfully pass on any relevant messages.

Remember if you happen to be on LinkedIn you can join the Folkestone Plimsoll Memorial Campaign group and read updates, or share opinions and information.

The organisers think we are going to do Samuel Plimsoll proud.

The elegant Aberdeen built wool clipper Samule Plimsoll, named after and launched by Samuel Plimsoll appears on this web site in the painting  – “Emigration, Plymouth Cattewater” – The clipper “Samuel Plimsoll” loading emigrants for Australia summer 1884.

The picture, a pleasure to own and as sound an investment as a Plimsoll line  is available as a signed numbered heritage quality print from our print gallery page via PayPal or can be paid for by a simple bank to bank transaction in installments or as a one off transaction.

Enjoy.
